His will, dated 31 Mar 1884, was filed for probate in Tate County, Mississippi on 1 Aug 1884. His will stated that his assets should be used for the maintenance of his wife, Nancy B. Massey, until she remarried or died. If she remarried, all would be divided between between her and their children. If she died, the children would all share in the estate. During his wife's lifetime, all should be used for her support after paying the expenses of working the land. The executors should pay for his funeral expenses and all just debts, then they should work the land as if he were alive, buying and selling stock as if he were alive. The profits after expenses should pay for his widow's support. His wife and son Robert W. Massey were executors.
