There is a picture of Dollie standing outside the schoolhouse at Dickens where she taught school. There is also a letter of reference for Dollie Daniel that recommends her as a teacher. Two trustees of a school where she taught signed it, and it is dated Mar. 6, 1904. It was written in Shanks, Texas (Freestone County). There is also a small old photograph that has the name Katie Shanks, Shanks, Texas on the back.

She is listed in the following Waco City Directories:
1904-05 Daniel, Dollie Miss, school teacher, h. Mrs. Bettie Daniel
1906-07 Daniel, Dollie Miss, school teacher, h. Mrs. Bettie Daniel
1907-08 Daniel, Dollie Miss, school teacher, h. 1401 Summers ave, N. Waco.

In 1907 she registered her teaching certificate in Dickens County. That is the same year that J. V. Alexander, her future husband, registered his. They probably were there two years since there is a picture of Miss Mayfield, and she registered her certificate in the following year, 1908. The registration of her teaching certificate says Dickens, and there is a picture of her standing outside that school. However, there is another picture of the school at Croton which is shown as her school on the label. Whether she taught one year at Dickens and then went to Croton or taught at Croton alone is unknown. The school at Croton was called No View because it was located in a valley near a creek where cottonwood trees surrounded it. The building was built in 1917 and used as a school, church, voting place, and center of various social activities for the community.

The following is a letter of recommendation on Waco Public Schools letterhead recommending Dollie Daniel. It is signed by J. C. Lattimore who is named on the letterhead as the superintendent of schools.
Waco, Texas, June 8, 1909.
TO ANY SCHOOL BOARD:--
Miss Dollie Daniel is a graduate of the Waco High School, English course, class of 1903. Miss Dollie was one of our honor graduates having made the third highest grade in a large class of unusually strong pupils.
Since her graduation, she has attended three summer Normals. During this time she has taught seven school terms. While I have not had an opportunity personally to observe her work in the school room, yet my knowledge of her as a pupil causes me to feel sure that she must be an excellent teacher.
I most heartily commend her to the favorable consideration of any school Board to which she may apply.
Most respectfully,
J. C. Lattimore

There is a copy of a Report of Teacher's Examination for State Certificate issued July 26, 1917 to Mrs. Lenore Alexander, Llano, Texas. It includes the report of the State Board of Examiners in regard to her examination papers submitted from Waco Summer Normal. She had an average in second grade subjects of 85, which was sufficient for a six years' certificate. With it there is a Teachers Temporary Certificate that is a Summer Normal Second Grade Certificate issued July 26, 1917. Attached to these documents is a letter addressed to Mrs. Lenore Alexander, Valley Spring, Texas. It is dated September 8, 1917. It says that they are returning the previously mentioned documents with the proper correction in the spelling of her name. The Department of Education had also corrected their records.

May 21 1909 she sent a card to her future husband (a month before the wedding). It was sent to him by General Delivery in Dallas, Texas. She said it was the last card he would get from her in Dallas. She ended it with "Come runnin."

The following is a letter written by Elizabeth C. Daniel to Dollie and John Alexander following the death of their son. Compare it to the letter Diademia wrote to Elizabeth C. Daniel on a similar occasion. (These old letters are difficult to transcribe. It is hard to tell what punctuation has been used. I have tried to copy them as well as I can, keeping the same punctuation and capitalization.)

THE FOLLOWING IS A LETTER FROM DOLLIE DANIEL ALEXANDER TO HER MOTHER MRS. BETTIE DANIEL, 1801 SUMMER AVE., WACO, TEXAS. IT IS IN AN ENVELOPE POSTMARKED JUN. 22, 1937. THERE IS ANOTHER LETTER IN THE SAME ENVELOPE.
THIS IS THE FIRST LETTER
Poly July 1, '37
Dear Mother & Sis;
Just a few lines so you will get it this week.
Yes, we did have a big rain Monday about 11 to 12 o'clock and it rained on the south side too so I think it must have fallen just after you got out of town.
There was more rain that day than fell the night before. There was a small twister Sunday night up in the woods to the Southeast of us. Several garages were blown down and one house unroofed. That was in the neighborhood where our laundry-woman lives.
John went to Theron's on the north side after leaving you. He said it hadn't rained there either Sunday night or Monday. We had a pretty good one, though the ground is dry again now.
John was out mowing the front yard yesterday morning. After awhile he came in with Riley. He had come from Temple where he left Olive in the hospital. She had an operation a week ago. He planned to leave for Temple and told me goodbye this morning when a man came for him but left in the other fellow's car and his is still here so I guess he isn't gone yet. Theron and Beulah came over yesterday eve to see him.
They are planning to spend this week end with Myrtle at Covington.
John is working today and tomorrow and then has Sat. Sunday and Monday off.
A short letter from Freda today said she reached home after eight Tuesday night and found it hot until they reached Utah. That was traveling fast to make such a trip in that time.
You didn't say but I guess you found everything O.K. We were awfully glad you came and will look forward to your next visit when Dora brings you if she doesn't wait too long.
Must close as it is getting near time for John to come.
Love to all. J. D. & L.

THIS IS THE SECOND LETTER IN THE ENVELOPE
Poly July 21.
Dear Mother & Sis:
This letter writing gets to be a job when you know nothing to write, but I always look forward to receiving yours so I better get busy.

Ever since it started showering around, the days and sometimes the nights are spotted - first cool and then so sultry & hot that I am miserable. We had a good shower yesterday. I think I must have taken cold in my bronchial tubes about last Friday. There seems to be phlegm there and it makes breathing difficult when I lie down. Have been having to sleep with two pillows under my head at night. The days are so sultry that I don't sleep in the day time much, anymore.

I have a batch of grapes to cook today. Have only made four glasses of jelly from the grapes so far. Since they are not ripening all at one time I may fool along and get the rest put up yet.

Won't Dora come by to see Mrs. Boswell? If she does and has room for you, come back to see us again and I'll pay your way back on the bus.

A part of Lula's sick stomach may be due to eye strain. That will nauseate me. However I guess there is plenty else the matter with her.

If they don't mind it will be cold, rainy weather before Myra's chimney is started. I would hate to have the roof torn off and one end of the house open when a fall rain set in.
It is 3 P.M. I have made 8 or nine glasses of jelly - had a nap and woke up, oh so hot! The white clouds are still hanging around.

Well I guess that is all for this time. Come when you can.
Love to all. J. D. & L.

ON THE BACK OF THE LAST LETTER WAS A NOTE
Edna Tipton phoned out Monday. She was with a crowd that had been to the shows at Dallas & here. Didn't have time to come out.
The card was awfully sweet. Thanks a lot.
