Shared note | On 9 Nov 1991, information on his descendants was corrected and amplified by Mary Pirie. Mary also included the source for James's Marriage license; for which we are very grateful. BEMc, Apr 1992, added the census records for James's family, 1850, 1870 & 1880. In the 1870, Peter Brock, Edward Cooper, James Daniel, and Frederick Daniel are living next to each other, households # 495, 496, 497, 498. In the three records James is 38 planter, 56 farmer, 67 farmer b. GA, parents born SC & SC. By 1880 They live in Ft. Deposit. In the 1880 census (p. 29, family no. 233) James was 67, a farmer, b. in GA. His father and mother were born in SC. M. A. Daniel, wife, was 61. S. W. Daniel, daughter, single was 36. F. F. Daniel, son, was 34 and worked in the farm. L. L. Daniel (8) and S. V. Daniel (6), granddaughters lived there. Their mother and father were born in AL. (www.familysearch.org, 1880 United States Census Household Record, Fort Deposit, Lowndes, AL, family History Library Film #1254020, NA film #T9-0020, p. 131A, accessed 15 Oct 2003) Note by JGC: "T. L. Quillian's 2nd wife was the dau of Jimmy Daniel. Jimmy Daniel used to live across the road from what is now Mr. Forehand's (?) place in Ft. D. (East part of Ft D). Jimmy made wood carvings very skillfully - carved birds, "hands", etc. He lost his sight in later years but still made his carvings. (I have seen a hand that he carved, another relative not Mrs. T. had it.) Another person has told me about the Jimmy Daniel above, making carvings ... that person told me that Jimmy's sight became very poor before his death or that he was "losing his sight" or something like that rather than that he had "lost his sight". Anyway, they too said he continued making the carvings." Montgomery Advertiser, Sept 19, 1900: " After many years of happy wedded life, Mr. & Mrs. James Daniel of Ft Deposit passed away, just one week elapsing between their deaths. They were the parents of Mr. J. G. Daniel of this place, and the loss of his little son but a few weeks ago, followed so closely by his additional bereavement, has been a heavy weight of Sorrow. Mr. & Mrs. Daniel were natives of Georgia and were aged respectively 88 & 82 years. They were members of the Primitive Baptist church and lived pure, upright lives. For years their home was in this county, but for the past twenty years they had lived near Ft Deposit. Two sons and four daughters mourn the loss of this noble father and mother."
