Shared note

He was a Captain, killed in the Battle of Hatcher's Run, VA. (Civil War). "He was captain of A.V.C., ... He left 3 children, one named Honora." (31) See the Annie Belle Breckenridge/Mary Ringstaff correspondence on this family, found in CEMcD Notes. His military career is covered in the military section of CEMcD notes. His children were raised by his wife and her second husband, his "cousin", Elisha James Daniel, son of Wm. Joseph Daniel and Emilia Harrison. See Elisha's will in CEMcD notes, p. 80. Elisha was with Zac when Zac was killed. "After the death of Capt. Henry H. Rutledge at Drewery's Bluff, Zack became the captain of Company H. In this company were at least ten Daniel brothers, two cousins, including Zacks brother, John Adams Daniel, a 4th Lieutenant."
Broyce McCormack has a list of 136 names of men belonging to this company, compiled in 1903 by two of its veterans, Jack Petty & F. M. Cody.
In 1850, he was living with his father and mother in Butler County, AL and was 23 years of age. (James Daniel, 1850 census, Butler County, AL, Beat #3, information from Ancestry.com) He was a school teacher.
