Ernie Daffin says that after Robina died, William Green Shepard sent all the children off to live with relatives. Walter Charles at 2 years of age and one sister lived with William's grandfather Walter Charles Shepard for eight years. After the grandfather's death, Walter went back to live with his father where he helped him on the farm. Walter Charles left a story of his life, part of which remains, in which he told of that period of his life. Census records indicate that the family may have been together during some of this time, however. More research is needed.
