Shared note

Montgomery Advertiser, 2 Jan 1907:"Ft Deposit, Dec 25 The citizens of Fort Deposit were never more startled nor shocked than this morning when they arose from their slumbers and heard that during the quietude of the night the home of N. M. Faulk had been burned and Mr. Faulk had lost his life in the blaze.

The particulars of the fire are very meagre. Mr. Faulk lived just 1/2 mile from town in a house owned by V. T. Hawkins, Jr. His wife and 2 children were at her father's, Mr. Thomas Daniels, 10 miles East of town.

There was no one else at home. Mr. Faulk was downtown and got home about 12 o'clock. Before 1 AM his house was discovered in a mass of flames and the several who had assembled could not possibly get in the house. They could see Mr Faulk, and his bed burning but could not get to him. The entire structure was soon a mass of ashes and coals. There was not enough of the body left to tell whether or not there was any foul play connected with the terrible accident. The body was examined by doctors, but they could not form any opinion from what was left. An inquest was held and the jury is still out, and may be for a day or two. There is a deal of supposition that Mr. Faulk was murdered and robbed and placed on the bed. There may probably be a detective employed to work the case up. Burial will take place tomorrow."
