NOTE: This page does not break down listings into families or households. There is an Abner Morgan family apparently next to them, but it is not distinguished that way in the census. Abner was 43, and possibly a brother of William.

After his first wife Mary Ann died, he remarried and came to TX in the late 1800's. He was the justice of the peace in Briscoe Co. He lived in the Silverton area after leaving Ellis Co., Texas.
OBIT -- WILLIAM JOSEPH MORGAN -- 16 October 1922, Pocahontas Arkansas
William Joseph Morgan was born 20 Dec 1843 in Marshall County, Tennessee, and died 16 October 1922 at Pocahontas, Arkansas. He was first married to Mary Ann Alexander 13 October 1865, to which union two children, a son and daughter, were born. The daughter, Mrs. Mary Lee Mackoy of Tulia, Texas, survives him.
His first wife departing this life in 1869, he was married to Mollie Sullivan in 1874, to which union six children, two sons and four daughters, were born. Two of the children, Mrs. J. T. Tosh of Italy, Texas, and Mrs. E. N. Ellis, of Pocohontas, survive him.
He enlisted in the Confederate army 17 March 1862, and was captured 24 November 1863, at Lookout Mountain, and sent to Rock Island prison where he served nineteen months until exchanged. He was paroled 24 May 1865 at Holly Springs, Mississippi. He was patriotic and a soldier to the very core, and never surrendered his convictions upon the South's rights in the contest. He was converted in 1865 and identified with the Missionary Baptist Church, and remained a strict adherent to that church until his death. He was a constant reader and kept himself well versed upon the public issues.
He was living at Silverton, Texas, until about two years ago when his health failed and he and his aged wife, who survives him, came to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. E. N. Ellis, at Pocohontas.
Funeral services were conducted at the Ellis home Tuesday afternoon by Rev. McEwen, and the remains of the old soldier were laid to rest in the Masonic Cemetery.
