"He (Simmerly) taught school at Honoraville near where Martha lived. They were married and had 3 children when he suddenly left his family and returned to Russelville, GA. There is reference to him being a doctor.

MADAM,
After our long absence I would not intrude on your repose, were it not that an object of great importance one which materially concerns us both urges me to solicit information from you. As it appears we cannot live together and enjoy the happiness of a matrimonial connection -- and you being the first to apply for a divorce I deem it a matter of utmost importance that you should obtain it. I made a proposal to your brother before I left Alabama, that if you would be
accountable for your cost I would for mine and would withdraw my defence and instructed my attorney so to do -- this would remove every impediment and insure you a clearance. Please inform me if you have acceded or intend to comply with my proposal -- you have had ample time to deliberate and advise on the subject. A dissolution of the marriage tie would set you at liberty and your disappointed happiness perhaps might be restored by forming a connection with a person more suitable desireable and worthy. Please write and direct your letter to Russelville, Ga.
