The entire family came to New Orleans before they moved to Texas, apparently settling in Pueblo, Colorado before arriving in Texas. He is listed in the 1904-1905 City Directory for Pueblo, Colorado. He was employed as a carpenter at the T. H. Foley Lumber Company, and he boarded at his parents' home at 919 Eldorado Ave. He and his brothers were in a band. In 1909 their band was featured in the first Baylor homecoming parade. In 1939 they moved in with Grace's sister Maud. They lived there together for over 20 years. He continued to live with his sister-in-law until her death. After Maud died, he went to live with his daughter Nicolina in California. World War I draft registration:
He was living in Harris County, listed as Alex Demetriz Alessandro, aged 28. He resided at 1918 Edwards, Houston, Texas.He was born Nov. 1, 1888 in Alia, Italy, and was a naturalized citizen. He was self-employed as a machinist and something else that is hard to read. He had a wife and two children, and he had no military experience. He claimed an exemption for the reason that he had dependants. He was of medium build and height. Census:
