In his obituary it said he was the son of J. B. Gambrell, noted Baptist preacher. He was well known as a mid-continent district oil writer and head of a news service that bore his name. His death occured at the home of his sister, where he had been staying following the sale of their home. They had planned on buying a small house after his wife returned from her summer visit with her parents in Mexia and friends and relatives in East Texas. He had previously been with the Oil and Gas Journal, the National Petroleum News, and the Texas Independent Refiners Association. At the time of his death he was with an oil news service. Both his wife and sister were out of town at the time of his death. He had been staying with his brother-in-law, F. M. Porter. He had been in poor health for a while. A maid witnessed the death. He poured acid into wine and drank it. He left notes for his wife and his neice Miss Fairfax Nisbet. He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha Corley Gambrell, son J. B. Gambrell, Jr., and Marcia Gambrell. He was also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Nisbet, Mrs. Porter of Dallas, and Mrs. Sidney Wiley of Macon, Georgia. Citation details: Jack B.
