In 1825, she and her sons Elijah, Henry, and Wesley signed a petition to the president by the citizens of Miller County, Arkansas. There was concern that their land was soon to be taken from them and ceded to the Choctaw Indians as a result of a treaty that had been made with the Indians. This was after the land had been surveyed, and they had been assured that they would be allowed to remain. In 1830, Margaret Tollett (John Tollet's widow), Wesley Tollett, and John Tollett (Margaret's grandson) moved to Texas. This was before Texas gained its independence. In February of 1838 Margaret Tollett was granted one league and one labor of public land because she was able to prove that she had been a continuously resided in Texas from November 15, 1831 - February 14, 1838. (Texas Certificate #343). She is buried in an unmarked grave on her property, about seven miles south of Point, Texas, north of Takawoni Lake.
