They lived on ranches near Ozona and Mertzon, but had to leave with only a few possesions following a drought in 1894. They went by covered wagon to Indian Territory in Oklahoma. In 1898 they returned to Texas, moving to Eastland County where he ranched near Rising Star. Later, they moved to Brownwood. (Newspaper article Reagan's Auditor Raring to Go Again)

On his death certificate, his parents were L. D. Puckett, born in Indiana, and Sarah Forbes, born in Illinois. He was married. The informant appears to be H. L. Puckett of Big Lake Texas. He was buried in Brownwood on 22 Nov 1918.
