Beyond our Elusive William Daniel

In 1923 she was on the honor roll of the University of Texas. In August of that year she was named as an associate editor for the coming year for the Longhorn Magazine, which was a literary monthly published by the University of Texas. In 1924 she was again on the honor roll, and was listed as Magna Cum Laude. She graduated from that school with a B.A. and a M.A. degree.

In 1925 she was appointed head of the English Department of the high school in Coolidge, Texas. The only teaching experience she had had was student teaching in Austin, Texas, but with her B.A. and M.A. degrees with a major in English and education, she was expected to perform well in the position.

She was found hanging from a wire in her attic by Mrs. J. S. Cannon on 25 Mar 1936 in Houston, Texas. She was a secretary of an insurance company, and she had taught school for two years in Mexia, Texas. When the Justice of the Peace held an inquest, he was told that she was despondent over the illness of a friend. She was 31 years of age.

She was Viola Corley, residing at 2509 Caroline, Houston, Harris, Texas, female, white, single. She died at her home. The date of birth was 1902 in Texas, and her age was about 34. She was a secretary. Her father was Wm. Corley, born in Texas. The mother's maiden name was unknown, born in Texas. Jack Corley of Mexia, Texas was the informant. The date of death was 25 Mar 1936. The cause of death was death by hanging, suicide.
