Shared note | The following information was found in the Darlington Courthouse, Darlington, Darlington Co, SC; Goodson, Thomas, Estate Papers File A-307 Died 1840 Intestate. Court appointed as Execs & Adsm: Joshua Pollard & James Dove. Excerpts of letters to James Dove, Society Hill, Darlington Co, SC. 1. William Pollard, Tiara PO, Montgomery Co, AL 4/25/1843; Wm, grandson of Thomas wrote giving his power of attorney to act in his behalf in settling the estate of Thomas. He also states that his Uncle John Goodson told him that Thomas had died. (Wm. leaves the impression that his John also lived in Montgomery Co.) 2. Elias Goodson, Tiara Po, Montgomery Co, AL, another grandson of Thomas wrote stating he was the son of James Goodson, formerly of Montgomery, but now deceased, giving his POA. He signed "Elias your friend and cousin". Thomas Goodson is listed on the earliest list of members of Black Creek Church (Baptist) in South Carolina (S. Carolina Baptists 1670-1805 by Leah Townsend, Ph. D., Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1974, p. 94.) A Sarah Goodson is also listed separately. Is this a son of James Goodson and Jane or possibly a brother? On 1 May 1783, a Thomas Goodson was appointed a captain in the militia and a William Goodson was appointed an Ensign in the same unit. |
