Daniel's great granddaughter, Annie Daniel Clifton, who got the info from her father and grandfather abt 1911, this Wm was married to an Elizabeth Skinner, and was a Revo. War soldier. However, the Wm Daniel, R. War soldier from Georgia, that she and several other people went into DAR on, does not appear to be the same Wm. Daniel, as her GGF, as he was in Darlington Co, SC in 1810, (be careful, there were several WD's there at that time!!!!) and before that, several of his children were born in NC.!! "A" Wm Daniel served as a Private in the GA Line, Hist of GA, Phillip Cook Smith, pg 572. also died in Wash Co GA 1836. Also one m. Elizabeth Skinner possibly in NY state in 1772. This one possibly b. Ireland 1745? (Source?) Considering the dates of the births of the children, I think we can rule this one out. Three men named William Daniels received land bounties in Georgia after the war. The other two had served in North Carolina units and moved to Georgia after the war. NOTE: SC Cheraws Area was parent of Cheraws Dist in 1769; Cheraws Dist was parent of Chesterfield, DARLINGTON, & Marlboro counties in 1785. Is this a parent of either William or Elizabeth? Also, who is John? Could he be related? He is old enough to be William's father. According to "OUR FAMILY CIRCLE" by Annie E Miller, published 1931 by JW Burke Co, Macon, GA, and in the DAR Library in Wash. DC, #21352, pages 486-489, refers to a Wm Daniel Sr, who had fourteen children, names some of the children, (but not the mother) and concludes with "Wm Daniel, Sr, had one other daughter and six sons whose names were not mentioned in the letter". Since this matches the family records of our Wm Daniel, I wonder if there was another wife who was mother to some of these children? Lots of research needed. Note: Smiths' "History of Georgia and the Georgia People, page 572 DEATH: one branch says Washington Co, GA, another says Butler Co Alabama. Co, Atlanta 1973, copyright 1924; Pg 10: the long list of grants found in White's and Smith's History of Georgia does not show the settlers alone, but names of many who never came at all, but sold their grants.-- The representatives in 1786 were: --William Daniel (?) "Ohoopee Church is one of the oldest in the county. It was consecrated in 1792. There were 10 men who founded it, among the names are the Daniels----The original name of the church was Brier Patch. This is included for research purposes only! For further research: A James Daniel's will was probated in Edgefield District, South Carolina. He left his estate to his wife and children, but the children are not named. Executors were his "beloved brothers William and Jesse Daniel and Theophilus Hill." I have not proven a connection to our family, but I think it is interesting considering the names involed, William Daniel and Theophilus Hill. It was dated 3 Apr 1816, witnesses appeared and verified the signatures 12 Apr 1816, and it was recorded 16 May 1816. (Will Book "A" Page 350-351) There is a William Daniel whose will was recorded 22 Jan 1829 in Camden, Kershaw District, South Carolina. This is definitely NOT our William Daniel. The heirs do not match. In 1790/1800 tax lists for VA, there are Goodson, Daniel, and Skinner families in Isle of Wight counties. Could this be a point of origin for the family? (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~ysbinns/vataxlists/1790index/1790sasl-index.htm, accessed 16 Jul 2001). On 2 Jan 1688-89 Edward Goodson and Wm. Daniel were witnesses (they signed with their marks) on a document for Ed. Fueryear in which he appointed an attorney to collect his debts. This would not be our William Daniel, but might they be earlier members of the Daniel and Goodson families? More research needed. In 1626 Christopher Daniel is listed as holding a patent for 100 acres in Warrascoyack Plantation, in Virginia. (William and Mary College Qrtly, Vol. 7, No. 4, P. 218) |
