Shared note

Wash. Co., GA, 1820 census, page 145, (same page as Kenith & Francis) shows 1 male 16-26 (1 engaged in Agriculture), 1 female (Nancy?) 16-26, a boy under 10 (b. 1810-1820) and a girl under 10. (If this Thomas is not the brother from Abel's list, see Heineman for another possible family to be "distantly related" (Family #3). Complete family detailed cen. 1820-1900 by Gwynn & Hines Daniel in CCA's files. The 1850 census identifies the wife as Nancy, and adds Rebecca Rogers age 8. Nancy was either a Pate or a Majors, both families lived nearby and were associated with this family for years. The descendants of the first Abel feel that Thomas had married a Nancy Major. Sidney Lomax and Hines, now, based on SL's memory and the fact that a Pate family lived next door in the AL 1820 census, feel she was Nancy Pate. Thomas found on 1860-70-80 census of Red Level, Covington Co, AL 3 doors from his daughter Elizabeth & her hus. Henry Terry. 1880 census gives parents born SC & VA, whether someone else gave this info to the census taker & was talking about Thomas being born in SC, or whether it was Thomas referring to his father & mother, we don't know at this time. Remember 2 of his siblings said on the same census that their father (William the elusive) was born in VA. This could be another error by the census taker. 1880 census, wife is gone, HH consists of granddaughter, Madora Jones 26, and her 2 children, Anna 4 & Thomas 1, all born in AL. Madora's marriage was recorded, 1874, in Crenshaw Co. "at Thomas Daniel res." FLASH: Thomas' Bible located!!! Sept. 1992, dates and names corrected this date to conform to Bible. Gwynne & Hines Daniel went to Andalusia, AL to meet Robert Terry, who was going to show them a cemetery where they believed Thomas might be buried. While waiting for Robert, they went into the local library. Gwynne noticed a note on a bulletin board and later mentioned it to Robert as it mentioned "Ficklin". Some time later that week he called the person. She said he was the first person to call her, & that the note had been there for several years. Imagine their surprise when they found out that not only did Robert have her Ficklin data, she had Thomas Daniel's Bible, and his son James H's too!! Plus a trunk full of papers, all of which she had found in an old deserted house, and didn't throw away because of the Bibles!! AND she and Robert and Hines were all related and didn't even know each other! Strange things happen in genealogy! Bible currently in possession of Faye Green, Velma Liles daughter. NOTE: It is now in the possession of Michael Nimmer (another interesting story!)
